Probably one of the greatest songs of all time – Proud Mary. If you don’t know it, please don’t read my blog, cause then there’s really nothing here that’s going to matter to you ever.
Lots of people have done this song, but only Tina Turner DOES this song. When she was young, and as she gracefully grows older, it’s always good and it’s always right.
I like to sing songs that I know. I don’t like new songs, and I’d prefer not to ever sing anything that was made in the last 5 years. Sometimes I give new stuff a try, and it very very rarely works out. I decide what I’m going to record by what pops into my head while I’m driving. I don’t want to learn new words, I don’t want to study sheet music, and I can’t be bothered to focus at all on what I’m supposed to sing and how. I don’t want to try, and if it doesn’t come out well, then I’ll come back to it in a few months, or not at all. But I usually know when somethings going to work when I get that very first urge to sing it.
I decided to record Proud Mary at home one morning, after I mistakenly put the effort into learning something that, as usual, didn’t work. To make myself feel better I figured I’d just have some fun with something I know in my guts, that I wouldn’t have to think about, and that might make a funny video.
As I begin to write my own music, and look around for current music that I find inspiring, I can’t find songs with the pure insanity and energy that these songs contain. The beats are flat, the sound is dry – everything is too smooth. Even this shitty instrumental track that I used to record Proud Mary is better than most shit on the radio today.
